Two best friends, one terrible playlist, and the spreadsheet that almost ruined everything.
The first thing that went wrong was the playlist. The second thing was the playlist again. The third thing was that Sam had spent four years loving Josh Park, had made a spreadsheet about it, and had not yet figured out that the real problem wasn't the 73% — it was that he hadn't told him.

"Here lies the spreadsheet, killed by what it tried to measure."— Sam, eulogy, Wallace, Idaho
Six chapters and an epilogue, one rental car, ten days.
Sam and Josh have been best friends since the third grade. They have, in twelve years, never had a fight that lasted more than four hours. They have, in twelve years, never once told each other what they actually mean to each other — partly because Sam made a spreadsheet, and the spreadsheet said 73%, and you do not, on a spreadsheet, argue with a 73%.
After graduation, they plan one last road trip: Pittsburgh to Chicago to Yellowstone to Portland, where their lives are about to fork in two directions that don't include each other. Sam is moving to San Francisco. Josh is moving to Portland. The plan is to say goodbye slowly, on purpose, with a paper map and a 347-song playlist.
The plan does not survive the first hot spring in Wyoming. What follows is ten days of arguing about Hungarian folk music, getting lost on roads that aren't on the map, eating the best burger either of them has ever had in a diner in Scenic, South Dakota, and the slow, reluctant, very funny realization that the spreadsheet was wrong about everything except the part where it mattered.
A novella that reads like a summer.
Six chapters plus an epilogue. Read it on a long drive, a long flight, or a long Sunday.
Sam, who makes spreadsheets about his feelings. Josh, who memorizes Hungarian folk music. Both of them wrong, both of them right, both of them trying.
Warm serif typography on a creamy background. Reads like a real book on any device, or printed out.
